American Fans Want Jermaine Jones

Late last week Schlake defensive midfielder Jermaine Jones made a decision to leave the German National Team player pool and pledge his allegiance to the United States reversing a decision the son of an American serviceman made almost a decade ago. Jones represented Germany three times on the senior national team level most recently in November against England.
Last Friday, I penned an article about Jones listing the pros and cons of his decision for the US and trying to take as look at what Bob Bradley must consider from a historical standpoint and with regards to his current squad before capping the player. The issues of David Regis, current tactics and Jones attitude. On Saturday after reading the responses to my post, and message boards on other websites I threw up a poll asking for the views on this issue.

As of this morning out of a 133 responses here was the breakdown:
YES 79% (105 votes)
NO 5% (6 votes)

We all saw yesterday what persistency leads to with Pepe Rossi. JJ would be better off in Germany.
Juan get off your high horse. Jones is not better off with Germnay because they have countless high quality midfielders. Unlike Rossi who fills a void for the Azzuri at a time where their attacking options are limited, Germany has a glut of holding midfielders. If Jones were a finisher he’s be better off with the Germans, but he has fewer possibilities in the middle sticking with the Germans.
Besides, I heard he was subject to some racial taunting and suddenly feels more American and less German, for obvious reasons.
Juan- Anonymous is right. Sadly. Read these quotes from Jones on his switch:
“I’m a player, when you see me, I have tattoos and in Germany the people maybe don’t like that stuff,” he said. “When I want to say something, then I say it. In Germany, it is all about the team and now there are more players who say nothing. Maybe this is the problem with me. I thought I maybe would have a chance with the national team of Germany. But for me, now this is over.
“When somebody looks at me, I’m not the perfect German. When I look at people in the States, they look more like me. In Germany with my tattoos people say, ‘Ooh, he’s not a good man.’ But look at Beckham, he has tattoos and no one says that. Maybe because I don’t have blue eyes and blond hair. But that is not a problem for me. I don’t have a good feeling about stuff in Germany.
“It is funny because in Germany they do not like different guys like me. I have so much people who don’t like it. When I say something I think is right they say: ‘You can’t say that. Why you say that? You can think it, but don’t say it.’ ”
I think he’s speaking in code. He’s black and he grew up in the US before moving (back) to Germany with his mom. I think he’s somewhat self conscious and feels more American than ever as he grows into his mid 20s and has gone from being a delightful youth prospect as a German to an individualistic black man and thus feeling more American.
Juan- read those quotes. Too bad Rossi didn’t get called “yank” or “jersey boy.” He would have switched also.
We win if we have Jones yesterday. The pity is Bradley would probably start his son instead.
Yeah Juan, JJ would be better off someplace where he cannot express himself and where he’ll always be judged by the color of his skin.
Rossi’s situation is totally different. He’s white and looks like he could be Italian or American. Jones grew up in Germany but is black and eventually that means he’s either American, African or Latin in the neo nazi world of some German fans.
It took Jones reaching adulthood that he is not German but in fact American.
