Mexican Squad for Azteca vs USA: Thoughts

Francisco Guillermo Ochoa Magaña | América

José de Jesús Corona Rodríguez | Cruz Azul

Efraín Juárez Valdez | UNAM José Antonio

Castro González | Tigres

Rafael Márquez Álvarez | Barcelona

José Jonny Magallón Oliva | Guadalajara

Ricardo Osorio Mendoza | Stuttgart

Aarón Galindo Rubio | Guadalajara

Carlos Arnoldo Salcido Flores | PSV Eindhoven

Oscar Adrián Rojas Castillon | América

Gerardo Torrado Diez de Bonilla | Cruz Azul

Israel Castro Macías | UNAM

José Andrés Guardado Hernández | La Coruña

Cuauhtémoc Blanco Bravo | Chicago Fire

Alberto Medina Briseño – Guadalajara

Giovani Dos Santos Ramírez – Tottenham

Nery Alberto Castillo Confalonieri – Shakhtar

Carlos Alberto Vela Garrido – Arsenal

Miguel Sabah Rodríguez – Monarcas

Guillermo Luis Franco – NO CLUB

This  squad is much more formidable than the squad the US lost 5-0 the other day. But Aguirre has buckled to some of the pressure to select members of the Gold Cup squad for this match, but has reinforced the side by dropping many of weaker Gold Cup links and bringing in a cast of impressive European based players.

Osvaldo Sanchez and Oscar Perez have finally been replaced as the #1 keeper by Memo Ochoa. Rafa Marquez is not healthy enough to make the squad but Aguirre surprisingly did not keep Fausto Pinto who had a strong Gold Cup in the squad.

The midfield will be led by the young and talented Andreas Guardado who scored versus the US in 2007. Up front, the squad is scary talented and strong which will test the American defense.

More later…..

I think Mexico will that with this lineup a 4-4-2 and I think Aguirre is going to use the same game plan he did against the B team in the gold cup and that is wait until the 2nd half to send the big guns like Vela, Franco and Blanco. so USA have to put all the ball in the net if they the chances and not waste them.
    Guardado——————Dos Santos

very similar to the one he just against Spain, Egypt and Brazil.

sorry about some misspell and grammer, it’s just I’m writing fast because I’m at work..lmao

I have a tough time thinking that they’ll end up starting guys like Sabah and Medina after the Gold Cup. Plus Pardo is not on the roster at the moment and according to the Mexican press has had some dispute with Aguirre. I’m not sure about where he would put the team in the formation but I’d have to think that he’ll be starting Blanco at the moment if only to make sure that he has experienced people on the field especially due to the fact that he was so influencial when he came on in their last few matches.
Another point reason why I see him going with the big guns early is that I’m sure that Aguirre has noted how the “A” team has had considerable difficulty giving up early goals and it might be good to go for the team early since many of our starters have never experienced Azteca before.

Angel’s lineups are exactly what I would have put down. However, is Pardo in the squad? You didn’t list him above. If he isn’t, I must admit that I know very little about Israel Castro.

you are right I made a mistake on the Pardo he is not in the list. So probably he will put Blanco and maybe move Gio as a striker, but then again I forgot that Nery Castillo is on the list too. But I have an Idea that Aguirre will us a similar lineup with exception on Pardo, which I found stupid if they don’t call him he is a good player

Aguirre has never liked Pardo. Good news for the USA because Pardo won the German League with Stuttgart.

Otherwise the squad is good and the US will be killed.

  8. July 29, 2009 at 9:46 pm

Yeah, good point about Pardo- what a consummate professional he is and very sad he’s being left off the squad.

    Killed Fubal Mexicana,

Por favor, Yeah Mexico is really hard to beat in the Azteca, Remember it took almost a decade for Mexico to beat the USA in the US soil. What makes you think that maybe this time the USA goes and change history in the Azteca and come back with a win. Remember what happen with Costa Rica in the 2002 world cup qualifying, Mexico got beat 3-1 and then like a sore looser they were. They got Medford out the Necaxa and kick out of Mexico only cause he made the third goal and celebrated. UMMMM Sore looser Que no!!!

Mhm… Pinto did a good job yes… but no enough to knock out others so therefore he is left out as simple as that and personally I don’t like him in the national team cause there are others better than him…

And as for the goalkeepers I’ve never liked Osvaldo Sanches’ play and I know many mexicans will try to kill me for saying that specially if they are Guadalajara’s fans (he was an icon there), he always made terrible mistakes, I know Ochoa had made them too but he is suppose to be expierenced and he made really terrible mistakes… but of course you always follows what the press says… I know Ochoa has a long way to go… but so does Corona, the only difference is that Corona really doesn’t realize that just when Cruz Azul pay $3.5 million US for him he just said “Yo valgo cada peso” – ” I worth every peso” I’d like to see in this tournament with the horrible defense his team has if the press continues to say that he is batter than Ochoa because 1 out of 3 is not a good defense…

And as for if US is going to win on Aug. 12 I seriously doubt that I don’t know what the score will be… because is a matter of pride for el Vasco and I think that your soccer has to evolve more… yes you have an style but like I said… Oswaldo Sanchez will not be the goalkeeper and even if Corona were to play he is far better than him… to score a goal like you usually do to Mexico won’t be that easy again it doesn’t matter if it’s Ochoa or Corona because thank god Aguirre is back and he is not calling the one who usually screw up…

The US has ZERO chance of even getting a draw in this game. Those who think otherwise are fools.

Mexico keeps the streak going by two goals…what a great squad.

Wow all these Mexican are going to live and dream about the Gold Cup and Anonymous please if you are going to say something like that have the guts to put a name on your post. Remember USA no need to win at the Azteca all the pressure is for Mexico. If Mexico loos it will be hard to go to the world Cup. I think Mexico should kiss the USA ass.

Angel… I think you need to be more respectful… I don’t recall being rude but whatever if Anonymous and drowningby upset you I can understand what you are saying but be aware that you are insulting me as well and I quote: “I think Mexico should kiss the USA ass” because I am Mexican too…

And talking about the pressure… I remember saying something in another post about the press… Mexico yes will be pressure but it won’t be the scenary you are thinking because people are backing them up again and the press too… because as I said before Soccer is the number 1 sport here…

And I repeat what I said about scoring a goal… not only Ochoa and Corona are far better goalkeepers than Oswaldo, if Ochoa plays he plays at home… Azteca is his home… his debut was there… and trust me he plays magnificent there, yes he had errors in the past like any other human being… but for him playing in Azteca is normal… and he could handle the pressure of such stadium with America wich here in Mexico you either love or hate… when he was only 18 years old…

Like I said I don’t know what the score will be… but surely USA won’t win…

This rice and beans eating Mexican is savoring the chance for USA to beat Mexico in Swine Flu City.

Prediction: 1-0 or 2-1, Estados Unidos de America.

  18. July 30, 2009 at 5:44 pm

My bad…i meant Mexico by AT LEAST two goals.

    Very Nice,

I didn’t mean to offended you, what I said is there are too Many Mexican that believe the Mexico is the Big Boss again after winning the Gold Cup. Sure they did win the Gold Cup and sure Mexico is a good National Team. But a lots of Mexican start insulting and name calling other people or nationality. And you get all workout of what I said. Look if the Mexican can be a little more humble and never look at the other countries from the Concacaf as inferior maybe they’ll get the respect that they deserve. But with Mexican fan and their attitude of thinking they are the biggest sh1t and never give other country credit where credit is due. And what I meant by ” Mexico kissing the USA Butt” I said it cause We need Mexico to be in the World Cup and Mexico is under pressure to get the win to get the 3 points. But if you keep insulting the USA they might go and try to win this game.
